St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery

Monterey (West Point), Nebraska 

On the occasion of West Point, Nebraska’s 150th celebration

In honor of Joseph Krienert 1st’s Civil War service (1864), you are invited to participate in the dedication of his new military headstone, with military honors provided by the Sons of the Union Veteran’s of the Civil War (SUVCW) and the VFW.

Also in attendance will be Rev. Father Frank Lordemann of St. Mary's Parish & Robert Wostoupal the Cuming County Veteran's Service Officer.

You may want to bring along a lawn chair.

Joseph (Johann Jodocus) Krienert

Corporal, Co. E, 85th Regiment, Enrolled Missouri Militia (1864)

Born: 18 December 1831 at Westerloh, Delbrueck, Westfalen, Germany

Died: 21 February, 1920 at Osmond, Pierce County, Nebraska

Interred at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Monterey (West Point), Cuming County, Nebraska

Married: Angela Maria Theresia Knaup,11 September, 1856 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Delbrück, Westfalen, Germany

 Joseph & Theresia arrived in the U.S. at the Port of New Orleans on 17 November, 1856.  They were aboard the ship "Ocean" from Bremen, Germany.  They subsequently settled near Florissant, Missouri.

Joseph Krienert enlisted, or enrolled in the Missouri Militia on April 30, 1864, at Florissant, Missouri.  He was ordered to active Federal  service on Sept. 25th, 1864 at St. Louis, and was released from Federal service on Nov. 3rd, 1864. 

Joseph became a U.S. citizen 20 October, 1870.

In 1878-79, Joseph & Theresia moved from Florissant, Missouri, to a farm they had purchased on the NW 1/4 of section 13, in Monterey Township, Cuming County, Nebraska.  They donated a parcel of land in the south-west portion of their farm to St. Boniface Catholic Church for the church cemetery.
